Other Supports

If you have low income you may be eligible for other supports to help meet your basic needs. For example:

  • If you have MaineCare, you can get help with transportation to medical appointments.
  • If you get TANF you can get help with child-care, transportation and other supports to help you do the activities in your family contract
  • If you are eligible for TANF but are not getting TANF, Alternative Aid can assist with car repair if it will help you to get or keep a job. But you don’t need to have MaineCare or TANF to be eligible for programs that will help with some basic needs.

Transportation:

  • New Transportation Benefit
A new DHHS program, called the Transitional Transportation (TT) Program can help working families with transportation needs. This is a new program that is different from the Transitional Transportation program for families leaving the TANF program.
  • CAP Agency contact information
Maine’s Community Action Programs provide transportation options for low-income people, people with disabilities, and the general public. Call your local CAP and ask about their transportation programs.
  • Maine Agencies on Aging
Seniors can contact their local Agency on Aging for more information about transportation for elders.
  • MaineCare Non-Emergency Transportation
Information for people who get MaineCare and need transportation to medical appointments.

Child Care:

If you are getting TANF and participating in ASPIRE, you can qualify for full-time or part-time child-care, depending on the number of hours of participation you are doing every week. For more information see TANF/ASPIRE: How many hours per week am I required to participate?

  • Maine’s Child Care Subsidy Program
Information about who qualifies for Child Care Subsidies and how to apply. You do not have to be receiving TANF or MaineCare to be eligible for Child Care Subsidy.
